you have 3 options: - use a special in-game place to sleep (the application will detect this and reset both your shift and driving time) - stay anywhere you like (see previous) and use a console to add 10 (or more but not less) hours. - use the application button which tells it you have slept enough (it will corrupt the log however so currently

There's no gameplay benefit to owning them. I agree to a point. I think day cabs should only be limited to local, 6 hour max hauls, and only be allowed to sleep in motels/hotels, your garage, ect. You should only really be allowed to take long hauls when you use a sleeper cab. Yup. This.

There is a mod called Sleep Less Work More in the workshop. It does two things. It increases the time between required rests from 11 hours to 18 hours and it shortens the amount of time sleeping from 9 hours to 6 hours. I use a package mod called 3 in 1 that includes this, no damage, and 1000 xp for doing the hardest parking job.
Interior Lights & Emblems version 9.8 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 (v1.47.x) - Added 2 new emblems (Electric Wizard & Peñarol Crest); - Added support for MAN TGX 2020. The mod adds LED emblems and lights (red, white, blue, green, purple, yellow, orange) to the interior of trucks. Compatible with all SCS trucks and some mods.
You could have a mod which detects what truck you are using. Then you could have the mod access a pre-defined list of trucks and cabin sizes which have or don't have cabs. If the truck has a bed, then it will allow you to sleep anywhere - this is probably going to be the engine limitation you are talking about.
